Podcasting interviews

Ok everyone I am almost done with the first set of interviews for the podcast. I have to warn you all that even though I am great face to face or talking in small groups, creating podcasts,  etc.,  but I have to say that talking on the phone I was so nervous doing each interview. I was more focused on getting the information that I sounded horrible.  I know that  I falter and sometimes loose my way but I will get better at it  I will make this the best podcast out there…lol

It does not mean that the content in the interviews is not incredible. I’m just a spaz sometimes…lol I’m human. Anyways keep a look out for them and make sure that you comment on them.

Social Bookmark It!

Social bookmarking is a new buzzword but the technology isn’t new. According to Wikipedia (great for blog citing, not for academic citing), social bookmarking has been around since 1996! There have been many websites that have come and gone, none having a viable model to make money or keep its customers around. Many technologies have a similar history, someone has a great idea, but a not so great execution of it. Someone else builds upon the missteps of others and adds their own insight, forming something new. It is this process that has led us to the websites used today for social bookmarking.

So how does social bookmarking work? A person on the internet sees a news article or a website they find of interest and decide they want to share it with people. Instead of emailing the link to his or her entire address book, that person posts the link to a few social bookmarking sites. For a more technical definition, see the Social Bookmarking article on Wikipedia. News sites have taken advantage of social bookmarking technology and posted icons and links at the end of an article that say “Digg, Stumbleupon, Delicious, Reddit, Newsvine” or any other social bookmarking site. This increases the chance that a user will post the link to the article on the website.

Each social bookmarking website has a different look and feel to it. Sometimes they even specialize in particular content. Reddit is more geared towards news stories, while others such as Digg and Stumbleupon are more general.

So how can social bookmarking help you in your business? You can create groups within these websites and restrict a link’s publicity to only that group. You can create a group for each of your departments in your company or nonprofit to have your employees post links to share with one another. You can bookmark news articles from several sites regarding your company to share at the next staff meeting. It can help you see the full circle of your work, from conception, to execution, to being reported on. Reading a collection of articles through social bookmarking can help you improve how you present yourselves to the public.

In the next few blog posts I’m going to dig a little deeper into a few social bookmarking sites and give you the scoop on them.

MySpace and Your Business

MySpace is one of the oldest social networking sites. It also has the worst reputation because of its age. It is similar to rebellious teenager who has potential but keeps making wrong choices. I’m sure you’ve heard about people who abuse MySpace and use it to find people to perform sexual acts, typically with minors. Dateline has done several television shows on this. People’s accounts have been hacked and profiles have been altered. It’s enough to make any company nervous about using MySpace. Old technology and a negative reputation can discourage people and companies from avoiding MySpace. But don’t write it off just yet.

So what’s good about MySpace? You can upload music, videos, and pictures, customize the look of your page, write blog entries, and connect with fans. It has taken several pointers from facebook and allows you to add applications and keep people in the know with status updates. It is very music and video driven, rather than content driven like facebook. Some people and companies choose either facebook or MySpace but others use both.

MySpace has a great niche with the entertainment industry. Most musicians, actors, actresses, and entertainers have a MySpace page. This enables them to post their singles or clips from their latest projects. MySpace allows for a level playing field, garage bands as well as Grammy award winning artists can have a page.

MySpace ‘s age also is a benefit, most people have heard of it and probably used it before. It is trustworthy, as it has been around for many years and has survived several newer technologies trying to oust it.

NuVisions does not have a MySpace page at this time, as we are focusing our social media marketing on facebook, LinkedIn, and twitter. However, as we expand our services into podcasts and other media, MySpace may fit into our marketing plan.

Look for my next blog entry exploring another kind of social media: social bookmarking.
